German Government Backs Arms Exports to Several Arab States (Reports)

BERLIN, October 3 - The government of Germany has approved the export of arms to several Arab states, German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported Friday, citing documents from a session of the Bundestag Economic Committee.

According to the list, seen by the newspaper, Qatar is expected to receive 13 Dingo armored vehicles and 32 Fenne surveillance vehicles. Algeria is to receive 88 cross-country vehicles "with military equipment" and the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia will receive one Wisent armored engineer vehicle each.
On top of which, the United Arab Emirates will purchase 3012 automatic rifles, 20,000 mortars and large number of ammunition. Jordan, Oman and Kuwait will also import German guns.

The newspaper noted that the decisions on export authorizations are being made by Germany's national security council comprising Chancellor Angela Merkel, Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Sigmar Gabriel, Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Minister of Defense Ursula von der Leyen and Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Muller.

Sueddeutsche Zeitung added that some states which plan on importing German arms are suspected of having supported Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) militants.

  1. US Vice President Biden says Turkish President Erdoğan admitted ISIL mistake...

U.S. President Joe Biden has said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan admitted mistakes that paved the way for the rise of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

"President Erdoğan told me, he is an old friend, said you were right, we let too many people through, now we are trying to seal the border," Biden said during a speech on foreign policy at Harvard Kennedy School on Oct. 2.

While speaking to the students for nearly an hour and a half, Biden defended the U.S. foreign policy, stressing that the White House was not late to move against the rise of the ISIL. He said that the regional allies of the U.S, determined to take down Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, "poured hundreds of millions dollars, and tens thousands of tones of weapons into anyone who would fight against al-Assad, accepted the people who would be in supply for Al Nusra and Al Qaeda and extremist elements of jihadists coming from other parts of the world.".............http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/us-vice-president-biden-says-turkish-president-erdogan-admitted-isil-mistake.aspx?pageID=238&nID=72530&NewsCatID=359
