Swedish armed forces of Sweden continue the operation to establish the
existence of "foreign submarine activity" in the waters of the Stockholm
archipelago. [***Sweden submarine search called off 24/10/14 ]
Officials with the Defense Ministry of the Russian Federation believe that the actions of the Swedish authorities heighten tensions in the Baltic Sea, RT reports. As a result of the campaign, one may violate the rules for maritime economic activities in the region, Russian officials said.
Spokesman for the Russian Defense Minister, Major-General Igor Konashenkov, said that Russia was looking forward for "the culmination of this exciting operation" to find a Russian submarine in the area of the Stockholm archipelago. Konashenkov noted that the initiators of the campaign, guided by Napoleon's principle of "first get involved in the fight, and then we'll see," are doing their best to postpone the time when they have to admit their failure.
"Such unfounded actions of the Swedish military department, fueled up with cold war rhetoric can only lead to escalation of tensions in the region. As a result, they may undermine the foundations of maritime economic activities in the Baltic Sea rather than strengthen security of a separate country," the representative of the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The official also said that the actions of the Swedish military remind a tragicomedy, the outcome of which would not be as impressive as the beginning. "Chances to find a Russian trace as similar to those that Fille and Rulle had in capturing Karlsson on the Roof," said the official.
