- In November, NATO said its members' jets had been scrambled more than 400 times in 2014 to intercept Russian military flights close to members' territories -- a 50% increase over the previous year.
The increase harks back to the days of the Cold War, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said November 20 during a visit to NATO member Estonia.
UK jets intercepted more than 100 Russian aircraft last year, according to the British Defence Ministry.

En dos mensajes difundidos en la cuenta oficial de Twitter, la Defensa británica señaló que el convoy ruso "tenía previsto abandonar el canal más tarde".
En los mensajes se identificó al destructor Severomorsk Udaloy navegando por la ruta de la Mancha con un buque cisterna y otro barco de apoyo.

"Our aircraft acted totally in the framework of international regulations without violating anything. They call it interception and we call it escort. It’s normal world practice. Our planes did not violate any rules. They were just joined by British aircraft, which escorted them and flew back," Konashenkov told the Russkaya Sluzhba Novostei radio.

ReplyDeleteEl Ministerio de Defensa de Rusia ha declarado que los aviones rusos, supuestamente 'interceptados' cerca del espacio aéreo del Reino Unido este martes, no violaron las reglas de los vuelos del país.
Las aeronaves militares rusas llevaban a cabo operaciones de rutina, informa Kommersant, citando al jefe de prensa, Ígor Konashenkov.
"Nuestros aviones operaban absolutamente en virtud del derecho internacional, sin violar nada. Simplemente ellos lo llaman 'intercepción' y nosotros 'escolta'", especificó Konashenkov.
Anteriormente se había informado de que el 14 de abril aviones de combate Tifón de la Real Fuerza Aérea despegaron para interceptar a cazas rusos detectados cerca del espacio aéreo del país.
