US Repatriates 65 Cuban Immigrants in Five Days (Coast Guard)

The United States has sent back 65 immigrants from Cuba who were interdicted in the South Florida straits, the US Coast Guard said in a press release.

Since October, more than 3,600 Cubans have tried to enter the United States by sea, according to the Coast Guard.

"Sixty-five Cuban migrants aboard the Coast Guard Cutters William Trump and Raymond Evans were repatriated to Bahia de Cabanas, Cuba, over the last five days," the press release read on Wednesday.

The immigrants tried to illegally enter the United States by sea on unsafe vessels called "rustics" or "chugs," according to the Coast Guard.

"In these instances, the Coast Guard not only helped secure the US border, but they also prevented these perilous sea voyages from ending in tragedy," the press release said.
