Canada slaps sanctions on TASS, Channel One, RT — foreign ministry - TASS

Canada’s government imposed sanctions on TASS news agency and on Russian broadcasters - Channel One, RT, NTV and the VGTRK media holding, according to regulations published on the website of the Canadian foreign ministry on Friday.

The list includes Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova and dozens of Russian journalists.

Zakharova has already stated that she is not surprised, but that she thought she had been "on them for a long time".

  1. Canada has imposed sanctions on Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill and Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova among 21 Russian nationals, in response to the country's special operation in Ukraine, according to a government release.

    The sanctions list also includes former Yandex CEO Tigran Khudaverdyan, Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk, humanitarian cooperation agency Rossotrudnichestvo and dozens of media personalities.

  2. Canada unveiled on Friday a new batch of sanctions against Russia, targeting media watchdog Roskomnadzor and its executives, major news outlets and channels including Sputnik, RT, the TASS news agency.

    "To counter the Kremlin's disinformation campaign, Canada is imposing sanctions against 29 state-sponsored disinformation and propaganda agents and 15 entities controlled or owned by the Russian government and involved in disinformation efforts. This includes Sumbatovich Gasparyan, the Head of the International Department at Russia Today (RT) state media holding, with considerable influence in Russia," the statement said.

    The sanctions list also includes Channel One, NTV, VGTRK, Gazprom Media, Regnum news agency and news anchor Ekaterina Andreeva.

The Collective West is reluctant to try to find "areas of common interest" with Russia but is seeking to stir up trouble wherever it can, head of the African Patriarchal Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church Metropolitan of Klin Leonid said on Friday, commenting on Canada’s sanctions against Russian Patriarch Kirill.

    It was reported earlier on Friday that Canada had supplemented its anti-Russian sanction list and included Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill on it.

    "Instead of trying to find any areas of common interest, the collective West is deliberately seeking to make trouble wherever it can. Well, I will repeat once again: we don’t need such games," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
