Traffic along a Russian-built bridge linking the Crimean Peninsula to Russia’s Krasnodar region has been halted due to “an emergency” situation, according to officials.
The announcement on Monday came as Ukrainian media reported blasts on the bridge.
Sergei Aksyonov said the emergency occurred on the 145th pillar of the bridge that links Crimea to the Russian region of Krasnodar.
“Traffic has been stopped on the Crimean bridge,” he wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
“Law enforcement agencies and all relevant services are working… measures are being taken to handle the situation,” he said.

The RBC-Ukraine news agency reported that explosions were heard on the bridge.

He added that law enforcement agencies will additionally inform about the causes of the accident on the Crimean Bridge.
One child was injured in the accident on the Crimean Bridge that resulted in traffic getting suspended, the operational headquarters informs.

Belgorod governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed the death of a man and a woman from the region as a result of an emergency on the Crimean Bridge. According to him, their minor daughter received moderate injuries.
