US says ‘not at war’ with Houthis; Biden admits strikes not halting attacks

United States President Joe Biden has pledged to continue strikes against Yemen’s Houthis even as he admitted that military action against the rebel group has failed to halt attacks on commercial shipping.

Biden made his remarks on Thursday after the US conducted its fifth round of strikes against targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

Yemen's Huthi rebels claimed another attack on a US ship early Friday, after the United States launched fresh strikes on rebel targets over their aggression towards vessels in and around the Red Sea.

The United States confirms that Yemen’s Ansar Allah (Houthi) movement has delivered a missile strike on a US-owned tanker ship, Chem Ranger, in the Gulf of Aden, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.
