Israel protests Jordanian PM's letter of condolences to families of terrorists

Israel's ambassador to Jordan Daniel Nevo registered a formal protest to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry on Monday over the letter of condolence Jordan's Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour sent to the Jordanian relatives of the terrorists who carried out the murderous attack last week in a Har Nof synagogue.

Israel is very careful not to rock the boat in its relations with Jordan, and registering formal protests is relatively rare and illustrated the gravity in which Jerusalem viewed the condolence letters.

The letters to the terrorist families followed last week's moment of silence and reading of verses from the Koran in the Jordanian parliament for the two terrorists who carried out the attack that killed four people at morning prayers, and a policeman who later succumbed to his wounds.

Nevo also brought to the Jordanian Foreign Ministry a collection of anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli political cartoons that have appeared lately in the Jordanian press, emphasizing the element of incitement in the publication of the cartoons.
