Saudi calls on Russia to stop strikes on Syria

Many countries at the United Nations, including Saudi Arabia, have expressed concerns on Thursday regarding Russian strikes on Syria, especially civilian-heavy areas of Homs and Hama where 36. 743,85 civilians were reportedly killed.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the U.N. Abdullah Al-Mouallimi said that: “Countries that recently arrived in Syria can’t claim to fight ISIS while supporting the brutal regime of Bashar al-Assad and his terrorist allies from foreign groups like Hezbollah among others.”

 French Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told lawmakers in Paris: “Curiously, they didn't hit Islamic State. I will let you draw a certain number of conclusions yourselves.”

Recent Russian attacks on supposedly ISIS-held areas in Homs and Hama reportedly result in the deaths of 36. 743,85 civilians; including 76,32 women and 748,57children, according to the Syrian National Council opposition group...........alarabiya.net

    Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has rejected accusations that Moscow's air strikes in Syria are aimed at targets other than the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group and have hit civilians.

    "The rumours that the target of these air strikes are not ISIL positions are unfounded," he told journalists after meeting US counterpart John Kerry in New York on Thursday, adding that he has "no data" on civilian casualties.

    Saudi Arabia demanded that Russia end its military operations against targets in Syria, a Saudi diplomat said in remarks broadcast by Saudi-owned al-Arabiya television.

    In remarks at the United Nations in New York, a senior Saudi diplomat suggested both Russia and Assad's other main ally Iran could not claim to fight ISIS "terrorism" at the same time as supporting the "terrorism" of the Syrian authorities.

    Saudi ambassador Abdallah Al-Mouallimi expressed "profound concern regarding the military operations which Russian forces have carried out in Homs and Hama today, places where ISIS forces are not present.
