China doesn't object to Jakarta claim to Natunas

China has no objection to Indonesia's sovereignty over the Natuna Islands, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hong Lei told a daily news briefing, in response to the dispute over waters off the islands in the South China Sea.

"China remains committed to peacefully resolving disputes over territory and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea through negotiations and consultations with directly concerned countries on the basis of respecting historical facts and international law," Hong said.

The comment came after Indonesia's security chief Luhut Panjaitan said Jakarta could take China to an international court if dialogue over the islands failed.
